Kudu Peckham

Watch out because you’re about to read a properly gushing rave review. I’d always meant to get over to Paradise Garage while it was open but London restaurants just keep opening while you’re making other plans. I heard it was very good though. The Sous Chef from there is now head chef at Kudu a neighbourhood small plates and brunch spot with a South African influence in partnership with the daughter of the restauranteurs behind The Delauney, Wolsely et al. Clearly a very talented duo.

We went for brunch so that Max could come along too. Bare concrete walls, soul music playing, just enough room to squeak a buggy through. Open kitchen, gracious, friendly waitstaff. And the menu. Ooft. The brunch menu is short but perfectly formed. The dinner menu which I am now desperate to try isn’t much longer but also looks perfect.

What’s good? The cocktails. The Sourdough waffle, duck eggs, sour cream, slab of bacon, maple. I’ve never seen poached eggs like these. They are obscene. Also, the Pumpkin tart, salted caramel, charcoal & almond ice cream, a perfect balance of textures and flavours. I keep writing perfect. It absolutely was. A million times better than any pumpkin pie I’ve ever made and I thought until I’d eaten their’s that I was quite good at making pumpkin pies.

Kid friendly? Everyone seemed very happy to see Max. There’s no baby change but I’d forgive this restaurant almost anything because the food is that good. I want to move in.
