108 Garage Notting Hill

If you’re reading this as the owner of an older child, please don’t say I told you so. My son is now nearly seven months old and I can no longer go to restaurants with him if they do not have highchairs. I know there will probably come a time when we are banished exclusively to softplay cafes but for now, we just need a highchair and then everything is cool.

108 Garage doesn’t have highchairs. I do not begrudge them this. Their restaurant is very sexy and highchairs are, I think we can all agree, the opposite. They have room for buggies though so if you have a little one under six months old you will not have a problem here. The dining room is mahogany and moodliy lit, the tasting menu is of Michelin star standard, the service relaxed. This is a wonderful place for a bit of footsie under the table.

Now, without a highchair, my mum and I passed Max back and forth throughout our meal to keep him occupied and each time he made a joyus squawk the entire table next to us nearly got whiplash. Then Max  knocked a plate onto the floor, which smashed and now I know what it is like to die. The restaurant were so chill about the smashed plate. Completely. Impressively chill. We were deeply apologetic and the wonderful meal resumed.

What’s good? The dashi broth, the hogget, the muscat palate cleanser. Many things that were not possible to be described labelled only as snacks. I spent a lot of our meal saying “I don’t know what this is but it’s incredible.”

Kid friendly? Happy to accommodate a little one but with no additional equipment available.
