Bistro Mirey West Brompton

I think maybe things are starting to happen in West Brompton. The Prince by Pergola’s opening late last year suggests the beginning of a sea change for the area most famous for having a nice cemetery.

The next notable opening comes from Bistro Mirey a predominantly French style neighbourhood bistro with some Japanese inflection. The current head chef is formerly of The Narrow (Gordon Ramsey) and his culinary partner has run a series of successful supper clubs.

The restaurant itself is more spacious than it appears from the outside, tastefully neutral but with still a hint of supper club flair, there was a sprig of rosemary adorning each menu. Service is very friendly and warm and although there are still some kinks to be worked out in some dishes overall the menu is very promising and unique in its French and Japanese fusion. It’s the sort of place where they are clearly making their own mayonnaise.

What’s good? The chicken liver parfait with persimmon purée and the curried cod are notable but the mont-blanc cake with candied chestnut was absolutely gorgeous.

Kid friendly? As much as they can be. The downstairs loos are a tight squeeze and they don’t have space for baby change.
