Stupid hopes! I had such stupid big hopes for Iron Bloom. The menu sounded so exciting and I was going to take my Mum and it was ‘industrial’ which is often code for somehow acceptable to bring your kid. Alas. They don’t do a weekday lunch service so I could not take my Mum or Max or try many things from the menu that sounded cracking.
I took my husband instead and we had a little date. And a little meal, on a little seat. Everything in Iron Bloom is very little. Apart from the bill.
We had brunch because I’m basically so tired all the time that I don’t want to go out at night anymore and I ordered a lobster and potato hash. I was expecting there to be three small pieces of lobster because we all know that stuff is expensive. I wasn’t expecting them to scrimp on the potatoes as well. Potatoes. The brunch main was the size of a saucer, probably not even a whole potato was used. Luckily we both ordered a side and dessert plus one cocktail each and this series of astonishingly small plates cost us ninety (90) quid.
In theory you can take a baby here but I wouldn’t. Not because you would be unwelcome but because your money is better spent elsewhere.
What’s good? The desserts. Larger than the mains and rather wonderful.
Kid friendly? In this case it doesn’t matter.
