Hai Cenato Victoria

This is my third venture to restaurants in the Nova complex Victoria and despite a well respected food critic whom I love describing the place as soulless, what this translates to me as a mum with a buggy is accessible. There’s space, it’s all shiny and new and each restaurant has baby change facilities and a wheelchair accessible loo.

Hai Cenato is a beautifully decorated Italian American restaurant concocted by Jason Atherton of Pollen Street Social, Berners Tavern and Social Eating House fame. The restaurant is all dark wood and royal blue leather coupled vast natural light from the floor to ceiling windows. The loos are covered in framed photos of the Jazz era and er, The Fonz. The menu is high brow but includes pizza and pasta and the portions are closer to an American restaurant than a British one. (I am still full from the pork belly, 9 hours later.) They have a great value set menu – three courses for £19.50 and the waitstaff thought Max was an actual angel sent from heaven. I mean, I literally walked into this place red faced, sweating and barked ‘WHERE IS YOUR BABY CHANGE?’ because there had been a poo situation on the train on the way there and they were very much like, ‘right this way, madam’.

What’s good? Giles Coren says the pizza but I say PORK BELLY AND CRACK POTATOES THANK YOU PLEASE. Also, I was there on a Monday so missed it but their brunch menu looks crackin.
